While you did include many social activities in your list of
post-school activities, the first item you mentioned was reading. And
so, (unfairly) latching on to that one item, let me ask: How is spending
time with a book any less isolating than spending time with a computer?
What makes reading good and computers isolating? (T.V. is, in new studies
declairing the isolating nature of the internet, a social activity, and it
is, or at least can be, when you think about it.)
Some kids just like to spend time alone, which doesn't mean
they're anti-social or maladjusted. They are, after all, surrounded by
people all day at school.
